Milton Glaser

Milton Glaser
Milt
I have chosen Milton Glaser as my second graphic designer.
I like that his work is iconic and still remembered even merchandised today as much as it was back when he created ' I Love New York' icon.
But not only was he a graphic designer he dabbled in many other things.
He was responsible for over 300 designs and illustrations of posters, leaflets etc. for commercial use.
Milton Glaser was a a New York breed man who has had a very fulfilling career, and was selected for  a lifetime achievement award of the Cooper Hewitt National Museum in 2004.

No need to say what this is as its iconic.
This was created by Milton in 1977

Below is a variety of his work from Graphic design to logo to posters and illustrations he has did throughout his life.
I love the fact there is a quote within these famous logos that he designed and is something to aspire for in any part of the art world and life really in general it is a good thing to strive for.
Marlboro Cigarettes
DC Comics
.These are two more logo designs that Milton Glaser did and I have just found out. Many years of reading those Comic books and smoking these (the best ever fags), I had never thought to wonder who made up these designs

Now no one can say that they don't know who the Beatles were but many probably didn't know that Milton Glaser designed this famous piece (I didn't).

I always loved this psychedelic/pop art feel to it.

Now this like the 'I Love NY' is iconic.
But not one of my favorites, it just seems a little... I don't know i cant place why I don't like it but I've never forgot it so I guess ultimately it has done its purpose.
Staying in someone's mind.

While Milton Glaser was teaching at The Real World: Art School which had just started using the new Photoshop 2(with layers) Milton Glaser was still teaching the 'old fashioned' way and not a lot of students were very pleased with this, they believe his teaching skills were obsolete.
Even with all these wonderful pieces of artwork Milton Glaser has done he is still a skeptic when it comes to Digital Media and dealing with computers. He has once said that computers are microwaves is to gourmet cooking, also he has quoted," Technophobia is deeply engraved into my personality."
He had done most of his design work well before Digital began and believe in the hard earned way of creating art instead of anyone just logging into a computer and thinking they're a designer.
Although he does not use this new technology he isn't blind to the fact the world's designers have became dependent on such tools:- Photoshop, Illustrator, Inkscape and Coreldraw etc.
And within his offices he has industry standered Apple Macs, which has basic built-in-windows features for documents,e-mail,music and contacts. File types such as PDF, JPF, ZIP, MP3, PDS, and so much more, all comes with USB connectors which can fit for Digital Cameras, hard drives, mice and keyboards.
Many additional features included as well like games and image captures and photo booth.
Milton's preferred style of design is more simplistic and in your face than fancying about with some computer spending, what can seem like forever, on a design concept for you to not even use it.
(as many of us know once u try to do a quick sketch on Photoshop or just tweak one later thing, next thing you do know is,it's two o'clock in the morning and you have wasted all day. Then you zoom out and wonder - what the hell did i do with my time? lol )

Quote from Milton Glaser: " Even the newest of ideas must have a basis in the threads of history."

Dan Mountford

Dan Mountford

I have chosen Dan Mountford as one of my Graphic Designer. I like his work and how he uses original photography and adds digital elements into it.Also most of his work has trees and portraits of woman and men in them.

Dan is a 22 year old man born in England, he is a Photographer who uses Digital media applications to give his work a twist (graphic design).

Many people would argue that you can get a better result doing this all in Photoshop and have no need for all the additional use of double exposure in a camera, although I like his end results how he taken the time and his passion into his work shows through in his work.

Here is a few examples of his work that I like and a little description of how he does this.

I like this photograph as it has a female head, a castle and trees all within same 'portrait' you can see the clearly within the black and white version as well as with the coloured. But how the all line up and blend into each other perfectly, also it has little points to build a structure of the face ( I learned the name of this in Life Skills class but my mind is drawing a blank at the moment.)
But these lines to me have a Di Vinci influence to them, the way he initially see's the spots then lines and forms a picture within his head - well from watching Di Vinci Demons, the TV Series.
This picture cam from his tumblr account and he has stated which digital media's he has used to make this.
Photoshop, Illustrator and Creative Cloud.

Also here is a few more of Dan Mountford's work I like.
Again a portrait style woman with trees
within.

I like this one as to me almost symbolizes a woman's matter in life .
We as woman are the controllers of life, we get pregnant and give birth nurture and love kids until they branch out on there own. like a tree.

I love that this has a anti-smoking feel to it
This is a beautifully colourful piece of work so bright and vibrant.but also
you can see the details of this woman's face.
I really like that at 22 year year old not only is he a successful photographer/graphic designer he is now selling mechanise in the form of clothes.
Below is a list of ways that this type of work is duplicated.
It is not in my works copied from an online article ( I have it saved somewhere , unsure where at the moment but will find it.) , the reason for this is I wanted you all to get the correct information on how to do this and not following my words and it fails on you.

Double Exposure

Double exposure is a photographic technique that combines 2 different images and combines them into a single image. You can create varied images like a ghost effect, mirror image or simply brightening up a certain image such as a sun. The technique has been practiced for years, recently it has became more popular, due to the fact that graphic editor like Photoshop, Illustrator and Inskape.

What Is Digital Media ?

Mobile Phones
Computer

Digital media is a form of electronic media where data are stored in digital form such as videos, pictures and audio files.
Everything today has technology within it from PC's, Mobile Phones, Tablets, Kindles, E Book Reader, all these things have been modernized, consistently getting upgraded.
Mobile phones you can't even run them with the correct software, the correct data within, even text messages, pictures and mp3's cannot be played/saved with an SD Card (Secure Digital Card).
Digital medias benefits include, manipulation threw 3rd party software Photoshop, Illustrator, Inkscape for example. There will be a link at the end where you can go see and possible download if you wish.

These 3 types of types of Software programmes were designed to help you manipulate, edit, layer, duplicate etc for print design or wed design.

Photoshop
Photoshop Illustrator
Inkscape

This is a dark room where photographers
would develop their spool and create
there special photos.
This is also where the would manipulate
a photograph to their liking and of
course this was a long and dragged
out process.

This is an example of how photographers
to work.

A lot of photographers these days uses these such tools, modern technology and truly made it easier for everyone to do what they want instead of say 50 years ago.

These two pictures are a perfect example of how
Photoshop works no need to spend days in a dark room playing about with several different layers of photographs now can be easily done within a few hours (granted if you know what your doing).

Also all those blemishes and bags under your eyes that every woman tries to hide. Well instead of spending hours with a make-up artist or hours on yourself its all done now with the manipulation of Photoshop.

How the simplest of things have now changed.

It's not just photographers use these and similar types of programmes/software but also Graphic Designers, Sculptures to the everyday business person.
Computers, the World Wide Web and all the advanced technology that's been thought of is a vital part of everyday life: from doing a presentation, to teaching a classroom , to building a skyscraper.

The progress into these times has many, many of use and im sure in the future will be capable of so much more.
These graphic tablets work best for some of the type of work and detailing one would want with there work as there easily saved and uploaded anywhere you wish from you PC, Laptop, Conference Screen you could even upload it to a Social Networking site such as Facebook, Twitter etc.

This is one way of how a graphic tablet works, from simply drawing onto the tablet and it will display onto the computer screen.
This is another way certain graphic tablets work unlike the picture above this one you can zoom right into the detailing of things.

Everything these days has an attachment so that you load onto one of these Social Media sites.
